If there is one quintessential weed edible everyone has at least heard of, if not tried, it’s the weed brownie. This staple of cannabis culture is chocolatey, gooey, and decadent just like any other brownie. Weed brownies however, naturally come with the added benefit of getting you high. These brownies are easy to make, but you can’t just sprinkle some dried herb into your brownie batter. You need the right weed brownie recipe.
What are the Weed Brownies Effects?
Just like different strains of marijuana bring different effects, so too will weed brownies. If you use a sativa strain in your batter, your brownies will make you happy and sociable, and perhaps even a little creative. The effects of a sativa are typically very energetic so use this type of strain for your brownies if you’re sharing with friends, need to get your house cleaned, or just want to randomly go through everything in your closet.
Indica strains on the other hand, do not bring the energy of sativas. Indicas are known for their couch lock characteristics, helping you sleep and making you feel extremely relaxed. If you plan on enjoying your weed brownies while binging Netflix, you may want to choose an indica strain.
Regardless of what you’re doing while eating your brownies, remember to go slow at first. Pot brownies, just like any other type of weed edibles, take a little while to kick in. It can take as long as 45 minutes to one hour to start feeling the effects. Once they do kick in, the effects are much more powerful than if you had simply smoked a joint. The effects also last much longer than joints or ripping off a bong. So, try a small amount and wait. If you don’t feel anything, or don’t feel enough, after some time has passed, try a little more.

- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make Weed Brownies
Start making weed brownies by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If possible, adjust your oven rack to the middle position before preheating.
Then prepare a double boiler. To do this, place about two inches of water in a medium-sized saucepan. Place a glass bowl over the top. The bowl should fit nicely on top of the saucepan. Place the chocolate chips and the shortening into the bowl and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, turn the temperature down so the water just simmers. You don’t want the water to actually touch the bowl. Stir the chips and the shortening together with a rubber spatula, scraping the sides often.
Once the chocolate and shortening have melted together, use oven mitts or tea towels to remove the bowl. It will be hot and the water in the saucepan will emit a lot of steam, so be careful.
In a large bowl mix together all dry ingredients. These are the cocoa powder, flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. In a separate bowl, mix the eggs and vanilla extract. While the chocolate is still warm, slowly stream it into the egg mixture, whisking constantly as you do. Fold in the cannabutter and continue gently folding until all ingredients are mixed together.
Add the chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Again, fold just until you no longer see any flour and try not to over-mix the batter.
Line a 9” x 7” pan with parchment paper. To help it stay down, you can butter the pan with regular unsalted butter first. Pour the brownie batter and smooth it all out so its surface is level. Pick up the pan an drop it onto the counter a few times. This will release air that will cause your brownies to cook unevenly if left inside.
Place the brownies into the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Rotate the pan and then bake for an additional 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to sit for at least ten minutes. After that time, you can eat them but you will find their structure very messy. As the brownies cool, the chocolate in them will also begin to firm up. You will be left with a cute little nugget of brownie that holds its shape and has few crumbs.
Once completely cooled, remove the weed brownies from the pan by pulling up on the parchment. You can then slice and serve. Keep in mind that for every one-inch square, you will get about 29 milligrams of THC, which is fairly potent. This again, is an area in which you should go slow, and only consume more later, if needed.
Weed brownies have become an icon of cannabis culture for a reason. They’re delicious, they’re nostalgic, and they make everyone particularly happy. A batch from the above weed brownie recipe will make about 16 small brownies. They’ll keep in an airtight container at room temperature for three to four days.
