How Much Can Cannabis Yield Indoors?

Indoor-grown weed crops can yield in excess of 600 to 700 grams per square metre when the grower has everything dialled in perfectly.

Indoor growers have a few advantages over outdoor growers. Firstly, the environment can be more easily controlled in terms of light, temperature, and humidity. This level of climatic control can make a massive difference to the final result, with growers able to fine-tune the conditions for their plants.

More importantly, when you grow indoors, you can grow throughout the entire calendar year, no matter what the weather is doing outside! Multiple harvests per year are possible, making indoor growing a highly efficient and lucrative option.

Strain choice, the style of cultivation, training methods, and how much care and attention you put into the grow all play a role in determining how much yield to expect. But when everything is done right, and with the help of our high-yielding bangers, you can have yourself a decade's worth of weed in just a few short months!

How Much Can Cannabis Yield Outdoors? (up to 1500g per plant)

Outdoor growers are at the mercy of the gods to a certain extent, but if you have a lucky season, you can grow trees literally the size of a small house, and pull up to a few kilograms of beautiful, organic buds of each and every one.

Doing so is anything but a walk in the park, though. Outdoor cannabis cultivation is equal parts luck and skill.

Choosing a strain option well-suited to your local environment is crucial. Outdoor plants should be sturdy enough to withstand harsh weather conditions, pests, mould, and diseases. They also require proper care and attention throughout the growing season, which will last 5 to 7 months, depending on where you are and what you are trying to achieve.

You will also need to plant in a spot with the most direct sunlight possible and with space for the plants to grow into. Outdoor plants typically need more space to spread out than their indoor kin, allowing them to grow larger and produce more buds.

What Can You Do To Maximize Yield?

The list of ways to help your crop maximize yield is exhaustive. Some of the main points are:

  • Strain choice: Prioritize high-yielding strains like our specially selected seeds and give yourself the best chance at huge yields by selecting a cultivar known to be a big earner.
  • Use powerful Lights: The right lighting is crucial for indoor growing. High-intensity LED or HPS lights can significantly boost your plant's growth and yield by providing ample energy for photosynthesis. Using the correct option that covers every inch of space, you can help ensure that your plants produce at maximum capacity.
  • Use a hydroponic setup: There's no way around it. Most growers will see the largest yields when they grow in a high-quality hydroponic setup. This method directly provides all essential nutrients and water to the plant's roots and can offer explosive growth rates when implemented correctly.
  • Use cannabis-specific media: There are plenty of "one size fits all" options when it comes to fertilizers and growing media, but your plants will respond best to those formulated specifically for cannabis cultivation. These products provide the perfect balance of nutrients and keep your plants in their perfect pH sweet spot.
  • Give your plants plenty of space: Whether indoors or outdoors, crowding your plants will only stunt their growth and lead to smaller yields. Make sure to give each plant enough space to spread out and access light and nutrients efficiently.
  • Use high-quality nutrients: It may seem obvious, but using high-quality nutrients is essential for maximising yields. Cheap or poor-quality fertilizer can lead to nutrient deficiencies and stunted growth, affecting yield.
  • Provide proper care: This may seem obvious, but checking your plants daily is essential to being a successful weed grower. Little issues can quickly spiral into crop-destroying nightmares when left unchecked.
  • Stress training is key: Stress training comes in two flavours, low-stress training (LST) and high-stress training (HST). Low-stress training involves gently bending the branches and manipulating the plant to open it up to more light and increase bud production. High-stress training involves extreme measures like topping, FIMing, or super cropping to force the plant into a defensive state where it produces more resin and larger buds. Both methods can increase yields when done correctly but come with a certain amount of risk.
  • Use big pots: Larger pots give roots more room to grow, which can lead to bigger plants and higher yields. Make sure your pots also have good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
  • Avoid causing stress to plants: While a bit of stress can actually benefit your plants (LST and HST techniques), excessive stress from too much water, not enough food, or tough growing conditions can damage them and reduce yields. Make sure your grow space is steady and watch your plants closely for any signs of trouble.

What are the highest-yielding strains?

The new-school scene is filled with strain options offering above 500gr/m², but how about plus 600gr/m²?

  • Big Bomb Seeds by Bomb Seeds (Over 600gr/m²): Big Bomb is perfect if you're looking for a high yield with moderate THC levels (10% to 15%). It boasts a deep, almost mahogany-like woodiness mixed with a punchy skunk flavor and is about as easy to grow as any option in the entire menu. It gets through the flowering cycle quickly and has been known to push the 750g/m2 indoors.
  • Incredible Bulk by Dr. Krippling Seeds (Over 600gr/m²): This strain is a result of mixing three of the best Indica dominant strains of the past 20 years, resulting in a strain about as heavy as can be. With THC levels ranging from 19% to 22%, Incredible Bulk is not only a high-yielder but also offers high that lasts for hours and makes the idea of doing anything productive seem ridiculous. It's not as easy to grow as Big Bomb, but is still simple enough, and it flowers in just under 8 weeks.
  • Amnesia Haze by Royal Queen Seeds (Over 600gr/m²): A sativa-dominant hybrid that stormed Amsterdam in the mid-90s, this heavily sativa-dominant option is one of the most celebrated outdoor strains of all time. Thanks to her strong and stable genetics, she can easily provide yields of 600g/m² or more with the proper care. Outdoors, get ready to have your garden legitimately overtaken.

Do Sativa Or Indica Strains Yield More?

In the most general of terms, Indica strains yield more than sativa strains when grown under similar conditions.

This is anything but a hard and fast rule, more of a tendency.

  • Indica strains: Indica plants are typically shorter and bushier, with much closer internodal spacing and denser flowers. When trained correctly, this means that Indica dominant plants will have more bud sites that produce heavier and denser flowers in a small area, and will generally produce more weight per square foot than a Sativa.
  • Sativa strains: Sativa plants grow tall and have more significant internodal spacing, which results in more medium-sized flowers over an extended period that almost always a little less dense than Indica strains.

There's a lot more that goes into a plant's yield than just sativa or Indica genetics. Other factors like growing environment, care, and training techniques can have a bigger impact on yield than the strain itself.
